BRATISLAVA – “The emerging sparkle of history”

On the border with Austria and Hungary, straddling both banks of the River Danube, Bratislava is one of the youngest European metropolises and known for its location as the “gate to Slovakia”. Bratislava is a small historical city with only half a million inhabitants, but is still Slovakia’s capital and largest city.

The history of the city has been influenced by several different nations, including Hungary and Austrian. Increasing numbers of visitors show that this modern metropolis is opening up to Europe and to the world. Bratislava is Slovakia’s fastest developing city, and is becoming the main economic, cultural and political centre.

Bratislava is full of historical buildings, many of which are found in the Old Town. The cityscape of city is characterised by the medieval Castle of Bratislava, St. Martin’s Cathedral and grand architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries.

For tourists in search of the best views, especially in the evening, a restaurant located in a tower on the UFO Bridge offers a panorama of the city. Among the maze of cobblestone streets, small parks decorated with fountains make perfect places to stop and relax.
